LOOK: Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista Announces His Resignation Effective December

In 2015, former chairman of the Presidential Commission on Good Government Andres Bautista was appointed to head the Commission on Elections (Comelec). According to the Article IX of the 1987 Constitution, the appointment should last for seven years.

Just this morning though, Bautista announced on Twitter that he will cut the seven years short. He posted a photo of his letter accompanied by these words:
"It is with deep sadness that I am informing you about my decision to resign as the Chair of the Commission on Elections by the end of the year."

In the letter, he expressed his belief that this is the right to step down, given the fact that the barangay elections were postponed. And besides, his family needs him more during this trying times, according to him.
"After much prayer and discernment, I believe that this is the right time to step down given the postponement of the Barangay and SK elections. This was not easy decision. But my family, especially my children, need me now more than ever,"
Bautista also added that he believes he has served his position well and to the best of his ability.
"I believe I have served our Commission well and the Filipino people to the best of my ability, but only with your faithful help and constant support,"
This is the continuation of the saga that has Bautista and his estranged wife Patricia's bitter spat that got Patricia running to President Duterte to expose her husband and his alleged P1 billion hidden wealth.

The issue got derailed after the issues surrounding the death of minors, but has now resurfaced.
